Certification Options for smallholders

In order to meet the unique needs of smallholders, FSC has developed streamlined certification procedures. These include a series of modifications to the way certification bodies carry out initial certification assessments and annual monitoring for SLIMF operations. Learn more on these options with the links below.

Small and Low Intensity Forest Management (SLIMF) certification

The FSC Principles and Criteria may be applied to all forests of different sizes and production intensity. The Small and Low Intensity Forest Management (SLIMF) designation for forest management units is a response to the realities and needs of small and low intensity managed forests. Group certification

FSC group certification allows a group of forest owners to join together under a single FSC certificate and share certification costs among the group members. This can dramatically reduce the cost for each forest owner. The number of group members is not limited, but the group has to be managed effectively and function according to FSC rules.
