FSC Friday in the United Kingdom was a great success with activities and promotions taking place across the country.

Sheffield City Council opened the Ecclesall Sawmill for local schools to demonstrate the wealth of opportunities offered by the local woodlands; Rochdale Council held a Woodland Festival at Healey Dell Nature Reserve during the FSC weekend with demonstrations and workshop; Sefton Council organized practical woodland management demonstrations and woodland crafts, and pupils at Tomintoul Primary School used a tree from a local Crown Estate forest to create benches and flower tubs for their playground.

The Crown Estate also organized an ancient woodland walk near Lockerbie and the Dorset Rough Riders mountain biked through FSC certified Forestry Commission land raising awareness of FSC with flyers and posters.

Other activities ranged from a seminar on FSC Friday organized by the printing services company Elanders Hindson Ltd to the promotion of FSC Friday through Twitter by the printing cooperative Calverts, through designing and printing FSC T-shirts with the support of Hallmark Cards plc to the Good Wood Boat Company exhibiting their new FSC certified racing dinghy.

Several corporations promoted FSC Friday by offering presents and discounts on FSC certified products. The California Company offered a 15% discount on all its products; Warren Evans offered a 5% off FSC certified beds, and Fedrigoni UK gave the first 50 customers to order FSC certified papers a week’s supply of organic fruit for their office.
