What is RSS?
RSS are news feeds. This allows you to see when we have added new content. You no longer need to visit our web site to check for new content – even though we invite you to do so anyways. With RSS you can get the latest news in one place - as soon as it is published.
RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. This sounds technical, but in essence it is just a light web page, designed to be read by computers instead than people.
How do I use RSS?
To use RSS you need a news reader. This is a piece of software you can download for free or, depending on the browser you are using, might be already included in your browser. News readers check the feeds and let you read any new articles.
The main difference between browser-based news readers and those that you download is that the browser-based reader lets you access your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer. Downloadable applications store news feeds on your computer. The difference between the two systems compares to downloading your e-mail using Outlook, or keeping it on a web-based service like Hotmail of Yahoo. Firefox and some other browsers have the option to include RSS-Feeds as dynamic bookmarks.
Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want to receive.
We offer you the RSS function on the following sections of the FSC web site:
- News – receive FSC news as soon as we post it
- Documents under public consultation – every time we post a new document for consultation as part of the FSC standard development you will receive it immediately
- Facts and Figures – about once a month you will receive the newest facts and figures about FSC
To subscribe to the feed you can either click the orange button or drag the URL of the feed into your news reader. You can also cut and paste the URL of a new feed in your news reader.
Some browsers automatically check for feeds when you visit a website. They display an icon when they find one. This makes it even easier to subscribe to feeds. Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari do this for example. You can find more information about this feature on their websites.
