FSC Governance Review
Background
At the 2005 FSC General Assembly, Motion 51 was passed instructing the FSC Board and senior management to comprehensively review FSC's strategic vision, financial platform, and governance system.
The first two aspects are well underway with the adoption of FSC's new Global Strategy in November 2007 and the creation of Global Development company in charge of creating a new system of trademark licensing and fees.
The final and perhaps most important piece to transforming FSC to meet the opportunities of the future, is to update FSC's governance structures.
Final Proposals
FSC released the final proposal paper for the review of its governance process. These proposals are the culmination of an extensive review and consultation process. The document presents the final proposals by the FSC Board of Directors for changes to the FSC governance system in four major areas regarding the role of: FSC National Initiatives; FSC members; FSC Board of Directors; and other institutional decision-making structures.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort many people in the FSC community took to help develop these proposals and to make suggestions and comments. Some of these proposals can be implemented right away, while others will need to evolve as the FSC system grows and establishes a stronger financial platform.
For more information on the proposals please look at the Governance Review paper (English/Spanish).
How to comment
The consultation process is closed. Final discussions and decision making took place at the 2008 FSC General Assembly. Further information regarding this issue will be provided on this website soon.
