SGS moratorium on new FSC forest management certificates
Following the results of recent accreditation audits by Accreditation Services International (ASI), SGS South Africa, an FSC accredited certification body, has made a business decision to adopt an open-ended moratorium on the issuance of new FSC forest management certificates. SGS indicated that it remains committed to FSC’s objectives and that it will use this time to systematically review the situation related to forest management certification.
As of May 29th, 2008, SGS will not sign new contracts for assessing forest management operations for the purpose of FSC certification. However, SGS will maintain its services to all existing certificate holders and will continue to work with companies seeking re-certification.
