Working Group for the Development of Procedures

Background

Currently, FSC has two internal procedures for the development of FSC normative documents which lay down the process to be followed for the development and approval of FSC Social and Environmental Standards and for the development and approval of FSC Policies. At the 2008 FSC General Assembly, Policy Motion 35 was passed mandating the FSC to establish an independent working group with the objective of developing a clear protocol for the development of any normative document, including FSC policies, standards, guidance documents, procedures, directives and advice notes. Based on this motion, FSC is now seeking up to 6 individuals to serve on the FSC Policy and Standard Setting Working Group.  

Task Description

It will be the responsibility of the WG to review existing procedures FSC-PRO-01-001 V2-0 and FSC-PRO-01-002 V1-0 and to develop new procedures for the development and revision of other types of FSC normative documents. The tasks also include:

1.    Development of TORs for the Policy and Standard Development Working Group;

2.    Establishment of timeframes for review cycles of Policies and Standards and transitions timelines for compliance with new or revised Policies and Standards;

3.    Proposals for the improvement of communication in relation to Policy and Standards development.  

Establishment of Working Group

The call for working group members closed on 08 October 2010. Based on the applications received FSC is now in the process of selecting working group members.
