As a member of the regional senior management team, the Communications Manager is responsible for initiating, directing and implementing a comprehensive range of activities that ultimately strengthens the reputation, impact, and value of organization’s work in Asia Pacific. In addition, the Communications Manager should empower national offices and functions in a regional context to deliver their goals through supporting their strategic and integrated communications activities.
Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing successful and consistent communications strategies across the regional channels, in line with FSC’s global vision and the Asia Pacific Regional strategy.
- Writing and disseminating media releases, articles, editorials, blog posts and the like.
- Developing audience-targeted printed and digital material for information and promotional purposes across the region.
- Developing and maintaining content for websites, social media and corporate communications material, on an ongoing basis.
- Developing relevant messages for governments across the region and working with colleagues in the Asia Pacific region to deliver these messages.
- Continuing to build the reputation of FSC, including the pro-active sourcing and development of stories, developing and maintaining relationships with journalists, management of crisis communications, media training and monitoring coverage.
- Developing and managing a regional media engagement strategy.
- Monitoring regional media and analyzing media coverage of pre-identified topics.
- Providing advice and support to the Regional Director, Asia Pacific and APAC senior management team on all media and communications matters that impact on the work and reputation of FSC in the region.
- Liaising with the global communications team, including taking part in strategy development meetings and providing input (in the form of an Asia Pacific perspective) into various global communications projects.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- University (Bachelor or Master) degree in a relevant field (e.g. Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations).
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in communications work related to the roles and responsibilities of this position, in Asia Pacific (preferably across several countries).
- Experience in implementation of communications strategies, including media engagement strategies, and during times of crisis.
- At least 2 years’ experience working as a journalist, copy writer, or in another function where producing audience-targeted written material made up at least 30% of your work.
- Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling many functions simultaneously.
- Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
- Extensive project management experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to plan and organize work.
- Ability to work independently and deliver agreed actions on time and on budget.
- High degree of fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Fluency in Mandarin (reading) is preferred.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including copy writing and media release writing.
- Experience in working with the media.
- Experience in developing and implementing social media strategies.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
- Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
- Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC programme by stakeholders around the world.
- Basic understanding of the scope of FSC’s programmes and activities.
- Ability to represent FSC through their work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.
- Willingness to do what is needed to get the job done, whether it be menial tasks or engaging in high level strategy.
Terms and Conditions
- Location: FSC Asia Pacific Regional Offices in Hong Kong, China.
- Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
- Duration of Employment: Service and License Agreement for Consultants - 2 years (extension possible).
- Starting Date: As soon as possible.
- Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
